UPDATE: Kent Brown, a representative of the athletic department said that Tate’s status has not changed. A decision has yet to be made since the charges have dropped.

The final case for the arrested Illinois basketball players ended Thursday.

Illinois senior guard Jaylon Tate had his charges of domestic battery dismissed, according to a press release from State’s Attorney Julia Rietz. Tate’s attorney, Evan Bruno, also confirmed those claims.

Tate was arrested back in March on charges of domestic battery involving Illinois softball player Hailey Pieruccini.

Pieruccini said that there was a disagreement with Tate that night but the injuries she sustained were caused by herself.

Judge John Kennedy granted a motion April 29 that would permit the State’s Attorney’s office to allow two of the three witnesses testify against Tate.

Based on meetings the prosecution had with the alleged victim, the State’s Attorney’s office determined that the case could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

Illinois head coach John Groce and athletic director Josh Whitman released a statement saying that Tate was indefinitely suspended from the team when he was arrested.

Illinois’ Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Last season, Tate filled in the point guard role along with Khalid Lewis, after Tracy Abrams had gone down with a season ending injury for the second year in a row.

Tate averaged 1.8 points a game and 2.5 assists a game in 30 games last season for the Illini.
