Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman has decided who his right-hand man will be.

Warren Hood will be taking over as the Illini’s Deputy Athletic director.

“With more than three decades of involvement with the University of Illinois, his institutional knowledge and campus and community relationships are unmatched.” Whitman said in a press release.

Hood previously served as Senior Associate Director of Athletics. He overlooked the State Farm Center overhaul and renovations at Memorial Stadium.

“I am honored to represent the DIA in this new role,” Hood said in the release.

Hood’s new role will involve running Illinois’ Division of Intercollegiate Athletics in Whitman’s absence, as well as representing the DIA at events and having oversight of the football program. Hood will look over marketing, sponsorship and promotional services, as well as video and creative services.

Hood will still be overlooking facilities and capital projects, which includes the State Farm Center renovation that is slated to be completed in November.
