Jason Goldstein was the second Illini selected in the 2016 MLB Draft. He was chosen No. 267 overall by the Seattle Mariners.

Goldstein led the Illini in batting average (.312), on-base percentage (.402) and RBIs (29) while calling pitches from behind the plate. Goldstein opted to return to the Illini after being selected in the 17th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers following the first-ever NCAA Regional victory in program history at Illinois Field.

The senior catcher is the fifth top-10 round pick out of Illinois in the past two drafts, which is the most ever for the program over a two-year span.
