The Illinois women’s gymnastics are heading to its last regular season meet of the year this weekend — The Illinois Classic meet at Illinois State.

The Illini finished last weekend with a victory and a minor defeat.

Illinois produced another season-high 196.625, and took home three individual titles.

Lizzy LeDuc led the Illini with beam and floor titles earning a 9.925 on both events. Mary Jane Horth took home the bars title with a 9.900.

“We’re gonna really focus on what we did in Kentucky because that worked for us,” Leduc said. “Keep the momentum going, forget about what happened at Denver and strive for perfection.”

This weekend, the Illini look to finish the regular season with title wins and career-highs.

“The biggest thing is that we need to remain consistent in our training and if we do that then we’ll transfer that to the competition floor,” head coach Kim Landrus said. “We’ve talked about keeping the energy high, staying together as one unit.”

Last year the Illini placed first at the Classic.

Other teams this year include UIC, Northern Illinois and Illinois State.

“We’re still focusing on amplitude and execution on the vault landings,” Landrus said. “For the rest events, we need to continue to build. Hopefully, when they go to the meeting they can let loose and perform.”
