By Brendyn Jones, Assistant Sports Editor

Illinois volleyball’s assistant coach Alfred “Alfee” Reft has accepted the associate head coaching position with the University of San Diego, Illinois Athletics announced this week.

Reft, who spent two seasons with the Illini, helped coach the team to a 48-18 record in those two seasons along with two NCAA tournament appearances, one of which included a final four appearance.

“I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the University of Illinois for the opportunity you provided for me in this special community that cares so deeply for Illini volleyball,” said Reft per Illinois Athletics. “I am especially grateful to head coach Chris Tamas and the entire Illinois volleyball program for an amazing two years growth and success. I truly value what we have built in my short time here and look forward to seeing the amazing things this program will continue to do in the future.”

Illinois will begin a national search for a new assistant coach immediately according to the release.
