RIAA lawsuits unnecessary

By Brett Phillips

The Daily Illini could not be more right about the RIAA. It’s no coincidence that a poll of almost 100,000 people said that the RIAA was the worst company in America. Last month they made a handy website (www.p2plawsuits.com) allowing anyone who has been sued by the RIAA to settle out of court – all you need is an internet connection and a credit card! Interesting … if only they would realize this is the easiest way for people to buy their “product.” CD sales have plummeted 20 percent since this time last year. The RIAA needs to spend time setting up a way for the consumers to purchase and download DRM free music, not ways to settle lawsuits. Lawsuits brought forth are baseless and a waste of the courts’ time. P2P will exist no matter how hard you try to stop it, get with the times and start offering music online without DRM!
