COLUMN: A note from your opinions editor

By Andrew Mason

Editor’s Note: As we conclude the semester, it’s worth noting a few individual achievements. In February, Sujay Kumar was voted as Columnist of the Year by U.S. News and World Report’s Paper Trail blog, a site devoted to the comings and goings of college news. Also in February, this page was honored by the Illinois Collegiate Press Association with a 3rd place award for layout and design, a 1st place for editorial writing (college dailies with over 18,000 circulation), a 1st place in editorial cartooning for Brian McGovern and an honorable mention for a 2007 column I authored. This page is also proud to be the current home of Jonathan Jacobson, this year’s winner of The Daily Illini’s biggest honor, the Raymond Clamage Award. Finally, I would like to extend a personal thank you to the seniors who will not be returning for the fall: Justin Doran, Othman O’Malley, Lee Feder, Jonathan Jacobson and the irreplaceable Dana Larson. I especially want to express my gratitude to Dana, who admits she was in favor of hiring me almost two years ago. They will all be missed.
