Trustee misrepresents student body

By Teresa Ramos

Paul Schmitt should know better. As the Student Trustee he should not misrepresent the opinion of the “overwhelming majority of students” as being pro-chief. Although he stated in his letter that 80% of the students who voted on the Chief reinstatement voted pro-chief, he neglects to state that less than 10,000 students voted at all, which is not the majority of students on this campus by far. Unlike the presidential election that just past in which over half of the voting population actually cast a ballot, the majority of students at Illinois did not consider the reinstatement of the Chief worth their time. What is clear is that the majority of students on this campus think there are more important issues we face as a community.
