Illinois tennis players Roy Kalmanovich and Dennis Nevolo were defeated in the second round of the NCAA Singles Championships on Thursday.
Both Illini won their first sets but couldn’t hold on for victories after advancing to the second round with straight-set wins.
Kalmanovich, ranked No. 50, lost to top-seeded Arnau Brugues of Tulsa, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Nevolo, ranked No. 39, was narrowly defeated by No. 9-16-seeded Nate Schnugg of Georgia, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Nevolo and Kalmanovich were each one set away from advancing to the Round of 16 and earning All-American status.
