The No. 43 Illinois women’s tennis team upset No. 28 Indiana, 5-1, on Friday.
The win evens the Illini’s record to 6-6, 1-1, while the Hoosiers fall to 10-5, 0-2.
At the No. 2 doubles, sophomore Chelcie Abajian and freshman Rachael White upset the No. 24-ranked duo of Lindsey Stuckey and Evgeniya Vertesheva, 8-5, which was en route to a full sweep of the doubles point.
The Illini then cruised in singles, taking four wins in straight sets on courts 5, 6, 4 and 3, respectively. White suffered the only Illini loss, falling to Vertesheva 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. A win by junior Leigh Finnegan at the No. 4 spot led to an unfinished match during the second set on court one between Indiana’s No. 101 Leslie Hureau and Illinois senior Megan Fudge, who was up by one set.
The Illini return home next Friday to take on Wisconsin.
