    Pole vaulters compete in Champaign

Some of the nation’s top pole vaulters make their way to Champaign on Friday and Saturday.

Gill Athletics will host the fifth annual Factory Vault competition, which will feature Olympic Trials Champion Derek Miles and 2009 USA Indoor Champion Jeremy Scott, among others. The event will also feature a DJ, pole raffle, photo station and Team Pacer autograph sessions.

Athletes will be competing for $5,000 in prize money at Gill Athletics’ headquarters, located at 601 Mercury Drive in Champaign.

Friday will offer the beginner, intermediate and advanced competitions, and will have a tour of the Gill Factory where Pacer poles are made. After that, the public will get the chance to speak with Team Pacer — a group of vaulters sponsored by Gill.

Saturday will offer the open and masters’ competitions, with the elite vault set to start at noon. The event is free for the public.
