Google introduces voice calling on Gmail

Google has launched a voice calling capability on Gmail.

According to the Gmail blog, any Gmail user now has the ability to call any phone from their Gmail account.

Calls are free to any number in the U.S. and Canada for the rest of the year at least. Other international calls can be made at rates as low as $0.02 per minute.

According to the blog, users will start seeing a “Call Phones” option on their chat list over the next few days. To use the feature, the voice and video plug-in has to be installed.

Google is looking to expand the voice calling capability broadly as it is only available to U.S. based users right now.
