Student body president urges student senators to participate in UI reorganization plan

The Illinois Student Senate discussed University President Michael Hogan’s reorganization plan and voted on housekeeping items at its weekly meeting Wednesday.

An appropriation passed in which $300 was allotted to the Committee on Outreach to purchase candy for homecoming. A bylaw amendment passed regarding improving the management of senate record and file management.

David Olsen, student body president, encouraged senators to attend Urbana-Champaign Senate meetings on Mondays that will focus on a reorganization plan for the University. The plan would call for a new vice president of Health Affairs and for the titles of chancellors on each of the University’s three campuses be amended to include the title of “vice president.”

Olsen spoke neither for or against the plan, but urged senators to join the discussion.

The plan would change how the University operates as a whole, he said.

“This reorganization is going to set the tone for where this university is going for the next several decades,” Olsen said.

Student Senator David Pileski announced that the Committee on Governmental Affairs is organizing a lobby day for the student senate to travel to Springfield sometime in early November. They plan to focus on issues such as postgraduate opportunities and the infrastructure on campus, he said.

The ISS meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Illini Union Pine Lounge.
