Swimming & diving wins big against Nebraska in season opener

The Illinois swimming and diving team opened its season with a win, defeating Nebraska, 189.5-110.5, at the ARC pool on Saturday.

The Illini won 13 events, including victories by freshman Cara Chuang, sophomore Erin Lamb and junior April McKee.

Chuang made a solid college swimming debut after winning the 100 backstroke, the 200 backstroke and helping the 200 medley relay swim a new pool record with a time of one minute, 44.88 seconds and winning the race.

Saturday marked the third straight year that Illinois defeated Nebraska in the Illini’s season opener.

Illinois will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Ohio to compete against Toledo on Oct. 15 and Akron on Oct. 16.
