The Illinois doubles team of senior Abe Souza and junior Dennis Nevolo advanced to the semifinal round in the UTSA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Notre Dame, Ind.

The seventh seeded duo defeated 12th seeded Billy Bertha and Ricardo Martin of Wisconsin, 8-3, and then took on the No. 1 seed of Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola of Ohio State and beating them 9-7.

Souza and Nevolo will next face the eighth seeded Balazs Novak and Devin McCarthy of Ohio State on Monday and the championship match will follow.

Nevolo won the regional doubles title in 2009 when he was partnered with then senior Marek Czerwinski.

Seeded fourth, Nevolo also competed in singles portion of the tournament and fell in the quarterfinals Sunday to the fifth seeded Rola, 6-2, 6-2.
