Women’s tennis blanked by No. 10 Michigan

The Illinois women’s tennis team was defeated by No. 10 Michigan in straight sets (7-0), Friday at the Atkins Tennis Center.

The Illini came out flat, losing the first game of each doubles match, eventually losing every match starting off with a 1-0 deficit.

Sophomore Breanne Smutko and doubles partner senior Annie McCarthy were the only real close doubles match, losing 8-7 to Michigan’s doubles team of junior Michelle Sulahian and freshman Sam Critser.

The singles match did not bode well for the Illini, dropping the first set in every match. The only close set was sophomore Rachael White, who lost 7-5 in the second set.

The Illini will celebrate senior day for McCarthy and Leigh Finnegan on Sunday against Michigan State at the Atkins Tennis Center at noon.
