Women’s track and field finish 1st day of competition at Sea Ray Relays

After being disappointed with their times at the LSU Invitational back on April 2, senior Tamika Robinson and junior Ashley Kelly entered the Sea Ray Relays wanting to run faster.

Kelly did just that Friday, timing 54.15 seconds in the 400 meters, .18 seconds faster than her time at LSU. Kelly had the second fastest time in her event.

Though Robinson improved by .17 seconds in the 100 meters (11.74), she couldn’t do the same in the 100-meter hurdles. She clocked 13.39 Friday, compared to 13.32 at LSU.

On the distance side, sophomore Stephanie Morgan took a fourth-place finish with a time of 4 minutes, 25.97 seconds in the 1,500 meters.

Four Illini opened in the 3,000 meters. Senior Elizabeth Boyle finished third with a time of 10:05.68, and sophomore Courtney Yaeger followed in 10:09.14.

Junior Kendall McCaugherty highlighted the field events for Illinois. She had a personal-best in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.75 meters.

The Illini conclude Saturday, when most of the relay events will take place.
