Protestors to “Occupy Champaign-Urbana”

In solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York City, students and residents alike will participate in a march and rally to “Occupy Champaign-Urbana” on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Beginning at 11:30 a.m., protestors will meet at the WEFT 96.1 radio station, 113 N. Market St., Champaign, to prepare for the march. At 11:45 the march to West Side Park will begin with the intention of arriving there by noon.

The rally will be held at West Side Park in downtown Champaign.

Those who cannot or do not wish to walk in the march can meet at the park for the noon rally. It is unknown for how long the rally will continue.

The event has been posted to Facebook and over 100 users plan to attend.

“We Americans have sat silently for too long letting the top 1% decide on the direction America will take,” wrote Paul Nolan, the event creator, on the Facebook page. “Now is the time to stand up and let our voices be heard.”

Participants are encouraged to bring protest signs or any other items they deem necessary for the rally.
