Three arrested after man flees University police car

Three citizens were arrested near Krannert Center for the Performing Arts Wednesday night after a man in handcuffs fled from a squad car.

The man had previously been arrested for obstructing and resisting an investigation into possible controlled substances found in the Canopy Club, said University Police Captain Skip Frost. The man merged into the crowd in an attempt to escape from the officers and did not obey orders to stop. He was ultimately apprehended and arrested.

While in a squad car, the man escaped and fled on foot near Krannert. After being caught, he was arrested for escaping his arrest and two women were also arrested for aiding the man.

“We’re not in the habit of letting people out of squad cars,” Frost said. “We’ll review our practices to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
