The History of St. Valentine’s Day

On Feb. 13th in room 346 of the Library there will be a lecture on the story of St. Valentine’s Day. The lecture starts at 4:00p.m. and is expected to go until 5:15p.m.

Bonnie Wheeler, a professor at Southern Methodist University at Dallas, Texas, will hold the lecture. Wheeler is also an expert on medieval history and editor of the book series “The New Middle Ages.”

The Rare Book & Manuscript Library sponsors this event. The director of The Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Valerie Hotchkiss, says Wheeler was chosen for this lecture because she has studied Valentine’s Day and could report on it in a serious but also fun way.

This is the first time “The True History of St. Valentine’s Day” lecture will be held at U of I.

Hotchkiss expects around 50 to 70 students to attend the lecture.
