Alpha Xi Delta to hold event for Autism Speaks

Alpha Xi Delta sorority will hold a philanthropy event called the AmaXIng Challenge: Xi Marks the Spot, with the goal of raising funds for Autism Speaks on Wednesday and Thursday.

The event will begin Wednesday with a barbecue at the Alpha Xi Delta sorority house from 5-7 p.m. On Thursday, the AmaXIng Challenge will continue with a 5K scavenger hunt across campus, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for the barbecue can be purchased in advance for $4 or for $5 at the door. Registration for the 5K scavenger hunt teams took place in March with a fee of $100 per team. All proceeds from both of the AmaXIng Challenge events will benefit Autism Speaks.

The Alpha Xi Delta sorority formed a national partnership with Autism Speaks, the world’s largest Autism research and advocacy group, in 2009. Recent research has shown that 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys is diagnosed with Autism, the fastest growing developmental disorder in the nation. By raising funds for Autism Speaks, Alpha Xi Delta will provide monetary support for research to cure the disease.
