14-year-old arrested in attempted bank robbery prank

By Daily Illini Staff Report

A 14-year-old girl was arrested for her involvement in an attempted bank robbery at the Heartland Bank last Friday.

The juvenile was arrested by the Urbana Police Department Saturday for felony disorderly conduct and transported to the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center, after she confessed to her role in the mid-day robbery attempt of the bank, located at 1812 S. Philo Rd.

Police say the juvenile admitted she entered the bank and presented a note, which was supposed to be a prank.

The note reportedly said, “Give me the money or I’ll set the bomb off.” Before the teller could respond, she fled the scene.

According to the press release, other juveniles were also involved in the prank.
