Green Street Jimmy Johns involved in security breach

By Daily Illini Staff Report

The Jimmy John’s sandwich shop at 601B Green St. is one of 216 Jimmy John’s stores that has had customers’ credit and debit card information leaked.

According to a Jimmy John’s press release, the intruder was able to uncover card information between June 16 and Sept. 5 by stealing log-in credentials from the chain’s point-of-sale vendor.

The stolen information may include card numbers, names of cardholders, verification codes or card expiration dates. Jimmy John’s said information entered online or manually does not appear to be affected.

Jimmy John’s is recommending that customers monitor credit reports and pay card statements, as well as place fraud alerts on cards used at the store.

Jimmy John’s has hired third party forensic experts to help with the ongoing investigation, according to the release. The company said the security issue has been contained, and it is now safe for customers to use credit and debit cards at Jimmy John’s stores.
