According to the University’s Fiscal Year 2013 annual report, the University of Illinois spends $3.4 billion on compensation and benefits. The number makes up about 67 percent of the University’s annual operating expenses.

For a little bit of fun, The Daily Illini calculated how much $3.4 billion could buy if spent on other things.

Google has a net worth of around $382.47 billion. The search engine has millions of users every day. With the money used on salaries, the Unviersity could buy .009 of the company.
