Students at the College of Law are hosting a fundraiser and collection drive to assist people who lost their homes and families in the tornadoes that ravaged Alabama on April 27.
Collection bins will be set up in the College of Law, located at 504 East Pennsylvania Avenue, until May 17.
Emily Norris, third year law student, organized the drive. She said the victims of the tornado especially need water, socks, diapers, kitchen supplies, flash lights, hygiene products and items for babies and senior citizens.
Additionally, Norris will be collecting money for the relief effort in the College of Law pavilion Monday through Friday until May 13.
Norris and six other law students will be traveling to Alabama on May 18 to deliver the donations and volunteer for five days with Hands on Birmingham, a volunteer organization coordinating relief efforts in areas hardest hit by the tornadoes such as Tuscaloosa, Ala.

All items donated will go to Hands on Birmingham and the American Red Cross.
Massive tornadoes swept through the Tuscaloosa area April 27, leaving 250 people dead and thousands displaced from their homes.
Norris, who grew up near Birmingham, said she had been in an F5 tornado before.
“I’ve seen the destruction,” she said. “But this is far worse than anything than I’ve ever been through.”
Norris mentioned the American Red Cross’ difficulty in feeding the victims of the tornado, especially those in emergency shelters.
Norris hopes to have three cars’ worth of supplies to bring to Alabama with her and the other law students.
“Money’s tight around many corners right now, but there’s a huge need down (in Alabama) right now,” she said. “I hope that people would find it their heart to give for this type of natural disaster.”
