Spring 2024 Hiring
It is important to note that The Daily Illini is not an RSO. We are an independent news organization under Illini Media Company and is thus treated as an internship/job.
Below is the expected time contribution by section (per week):
- News — 3-4.5 hours
- Sports — 3-4.5 hours
- buzz — Approx. 4 hours
- Features — 2-3 hours
- Opinions — Approx. 2 hours
- Photo — 2-3 hours
- Design — 2-3 hours
- Graphics — Approx. 2 hours
- Socials/Video — 2-3 hours
- Copy — 2.5-4.5 hours
- Web Development — Approx. 5 hours

Eligibility
Any student studying at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is encouraged to apply, with the exception of second-semester seniors. You do not have to be pursuing a journalism-related degree to apply.
We’re looking for reporters, writers, photographers, videographers, designers, social media personnel, website developers, data analysts and more!
Entry-level positions are unpaid internships, however we offer paid positions for editors and assistants.
Application Process
- Fill out an application.
- An Executive Editor will reach out with the next steps shortly after receiving your application.
- Ethics training is mandatory for all new hires.
- Once ethics training is completed, the next step is to fill out all necessary paperwork, found at the front desk of the Illini Media office.
- Our editors will reach out to you shortly after we receive your documents.
- Complete section specific trainings, which may include additional meetings, quizzes, etc.
