Some people use it to change the color of a wall in their house, these people throw it on everyone around them.
Dayglow, which proclaims it is “the world’s largest paint party,” is making its way to the Lincoln Square Mall parking lot in Urbana on September 24. The doors will open at 7 p.m. with the party ending at midnight.
The event, which originated about five years ago in Florida, is a rave dance party that tours through various cities bringing with it gallons of neon paint, DJs and crazy visuals that promise to leave everyone who attends partied out and full of paint.
The Blu (Beats, Love, Unity) tour kicks off on Sept. 2 in Syracuse, N.Y., and finishes in Tuscon, Ariz., on Oct. 29. This year’s tour is unique because Dayglow will be introducing blue paint in addition to their other neon colors.
“If you plan on attending, be sure to wear white clothes and leave all your valuables at home because you will definitely get covered in paint,” said Arianna Rudawski, sophomore in LAS.

Although Dayglow uses non-toxic Art & Creative Materials Institute washable paint, it is still a good idea to take precautions to avoid stains on clothing.
Dayglow gives away free paint during different periods throughout the night, but it is always available to purchase at any time during the event, but attendees are not allowed to bring their own bottles.
Tickets are on sale now and are available online for either general admission or VIP access. The VIP tickets are pricier, but they come with a CD, bag, express entry, paint, shirt and glasses.
Even though tickets are on sale, the DJ lineup has not yet been released. Rudawski said that she was not deterred by this because she expects it to be a great night no matter who’s spinning the music.
“All I know is that it is going to be lots of fun, really messy, and really crazy!” said Melanie Cohen, sophomore in Business, who learned about Dayglow last semester via their Facebook event page.
Rudawski’s belief can be verified on Dayglow’s YouTube channel, which hosts “Aftermovies” that summarize the party from the tour’s previous stops in different cities. The videos show many college-aged students dancing to loud electronic music while they are squirted with paint from all different directions.
So if you have an itch to paint something that doesn’t involve a blank wall, maybe Dayglow is just what you need.
