The Occupy Wall Street demonstrations are making their mark across the country as well as locally in Champaign-Urbana.
Occupy Champaign-Urbana is an event aimed “in sympathy with the Occupy Wall Street efforts,” according to the organizer, Jesse Francis.
Francis clarified that while the event has no plans to occupy any building, park or street, the goal was to support the effort speaking out against corporate greed, among other issues.
“I’m a progressive activist in the community and I wanted to help the whole effort more than anything else,” he said.
According to the Facebook event page, peaceful demonstrations will be held seven days a week at 12 p.m. on the corner of University Avenue and Randolph Street in Champaign.

Francis said he started the page after seeing hundreds of sites being created across the country and world, but saw none created for the Champaign-Urbana area.
He added that a large portion of the likes on the Facebook page were from University students.
An organizational meeting for the event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Clark Bar in Champaign.
This will be followed by the main event on Oct. 15 at West Side Park in Champaign, which coincides with other demonstrations across the country.
