The National Weather Service, or NWS, issued a tornado watch Champaign County and surrounding counties until 8 p.m. CST. Earlier, the NWS put northern Champaign and Vermillion counties under a tornado warning that expired at 1:45 p.m.

The NWS is reporting a severe thunderstorm traveling through Champaign and surrounding counties, capable of producing a tornado.

The NWS recommends taking cover or moving to an interior room an the lowest floor of a building, avoiding windows.
