The Illinois State Police, or ISP, and the Champaign Police Department issued 28 alcohol-related citations between late Nov. 18 to early Nov. 19 as part of an Operation Campus/Tap program.
Twenty-two citations were issued for possession or purchase of alcohol by a minor, two for public urination, one for possession on public property, one for resisting arrest, one for presence of minor in liquor establishment and one citation for sale/delivery of alcohol to minors.
Bar checks were conducted as well at five bars – Red Lion, White Horse Inn, Joe’s Brewery, Jupiter’s at the Crossing and Soma – and on one campus street.
Red Lion led the citation count at 13, while eight were issued at Joe’s Brewery and four were issued on the street. No citations were issued at Jupiter’s at the Crossing or Soma.
According to a press release, the program intends to reduce underage drinking in Illinois and “increase police presence” on campus.
