A former head of the National Labor Relations Board will be speaking at the University about her time as a leader in protecting employee and union rights.
Wilma B. Liebman will be the featured speaker at the annual Derber Lecture, sponsored by the University’s School of Labor and Employment Relations, according to a release from the University’s News Bureau.
The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that aims to “protect the rights of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve their wages and working conditions,” according to its website.
Liebman just finished her time as chairwoman of the board in August, after being appointed to the position by President Barack Obama.
According to the organizers, Liebman’s speech will cover “ongoing political controversy over the board’s recent activities and the persistent challenges to labor law’s enduring values, which are critical to a democratic society and a fair economy.”
