The Urbana Middle School will hold its first Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Family Night on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 6-7:30 p.m. to showcase student work and related demonstrations. Local scientists will also be in attendance to present science and math related activities.
Also in attendance will be Material Advantage Outreach at UIUC, Don Keefer of the Illinois State Geological Society, Dave Leake from Staerkel Planetarium and volunteers from Vet Med. Students will share class projects and members of IMSA Fusion and Lego Robotics will host demonstrations.
STEM focuses on a “student-centered” classroom, and encourages kids to use questions and research to conduct experiments and explore topics that relate real world problems to the curriculum at Urbana Middle School.
