The Academic Telecommunications Advisory Group, made up of deans, directors and administrators who make information technology decisions for their units, announced Monday that it will push back the start date of the bridge period between phone systems from Jan. 9 to Feb. 12.
This change comes because the “Unified Communications”:https://www.dailyillini.com/index.php/article/2011/11/university_to_switch_to_unified_communications_phone_service Program office was informed that the 30,000 temporary phone numbers to be used during the transition period to a new system would not be available until February.
The temporary numbers were necessary because they would allow campus users to test the new system during the bridge period.
To still allow for that testing, the advisory group changed the bridge period activation date, giving campus users more than three months before the old phone system is eliminated.
According to a press release, this will not change the overall project timeline.
