The number of tickets issued on Unofficial St. Patrick’s Day was down this year.
Police wrote 289 tickets during the day, according to preliminary results released early Saturday morning. That number is down 75 from 2011, when 364 tickets were issued.
The weather could have kept the number of tickets down. Showers, thunderstorms and even some reports of hail made up the bulk of Friday morning before the weather let up. Still, temperatures cooled down during the afternoon and evening.
Citation numbers could change Monday.
Of the 289 tickets, 107 were written for University of Illinois students. Illinois State and Southern Illinois held some of the highest totals from other schools, with 19 and 14 tickets respectively.
