November 18, 2022
Enola Holmes two is a feel-good dramedy that explores topics such as feminism, child labor and workers rights, real life problems that occurred during the late 1800s. The film came out on Nov. 4, 2022, two years after the release of the first movie. The screenplay was written by Jack Thorne, and the story was written and directed by Harry Bradbeer, along with the help of the writer of the Enola Holmes book series Nancy Springer.
Enola Holmes, played by Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown, is the sister of the world-renowned detective Sherlock Holmes. In the first movie, Enola travels from her rural English home to the bustling city of London in search of her mother who disappeared suddenly. Enola Holmes 2 picks up with Enola trying to find her way as a young, female detective, a male-orientated profession dominated by her older brother. This leads her to find trouble and mystery in her work.
Inspired by the book “An Enola Holmes Mystery: The Case of the Left-handed Lady” by Springer, Enola Holmes 2 follows our ambitious heroine who is trying to find her rightful place in the dark and unknown city of London.
The movie stars Lewis Partridge as Tewkesbury, a close companion to Enola, and Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, famous detective, brother and guardian of Enola. Helena Bonham Carter, David Thewlis and Susan Wokoma also appear in the film.
Brown expressively portrays the lively, passionate, curious and activist based foundation that Enola Holmes’s character is built upon. The energy that Brown exhibits in the role seamlessly embodies the personality and drive of citizens fighting for the equality of women and the rights of people in labor unions. In the film, Enola poses as a child laborer in a match stick factory as a means of following leads on a case, but in the process she develops a passion for fighting and advocating for women working in the poor conditions of factory jobs.

The film has its fair share of humorous moments and light hearted interactions, incorporating the sibling banter between Enola and Sherlock Holmes, the close-knit bond of Enola and Tewksbury and Enola’s personal diary and interaction with the audience.
Enola Holmes 2 continues to develop the story lines carried throughout the first movie, creating dynamic and profound relationships between the characters. The relationship between Enola and her brother Sherlock develops into a comfortable sibling admiration, while the mother-daughter relationship between Enola and Eudoria Holmes, played by Carter, flourishes into a wise adult relationship, where Enola and her mother become partners and equals. As for the companion Enola found in Tewksbury, their relationship remains friendly but becomes continuously flirty, developing romantically with each minute, without losing the affectionate and familiar banter that makes their pair memorable.
The plot of Enola Holmes 2 creates an inspiring tale of feminist support, mystery, love and loss, perseverance and self-value and strength. Curating a balanced mixture of comedic moments with serious and inspiring topics, Brown with the help of her co-stars, and Bradbeer, produce a fun-loving, unique and inspiring comfort movie for all.
