Every year, the University has Homecoming Week, a festival for Illini to celebrate their school pride with numerous events from Sept. 8-14. Some of the more popular events consist of the annual 5K, parade, pep rally and football game, but amid all of the festivities, there’s no forgetting C-U’s vibrant music scene.
Throughout the week, there is a wide range of music events at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Canopy Club, Rose Bowl Tavern and the State Farm Center that you definitely won’t want to miss.
LaTasha Barnes and The Jazz Continuum
On Saturday, Sept. 14, KCPA presents LaTasha Barnes and The Jazz Continuum. LaTasha Barnes is a critically acclaimed dance artist who has received international praise and has been celebrated by publications such as The New York Times. She combines elements of hip-hop, house dance, waacking, jazz and Lindy Hop to create dynamic and spirited performances. Ticket prices range from $10 to $70, and the performance starts at 7:30 p.m.

The Wildwoods
If you’re a fan of indie folk music, you won’t want to miss The Wildwoods at Rose Bowl Tavern on Tuesday, Sept 10.
Being Nebraska natives, The Wildwoods are a singer-songwriter trio boasting undeniable talent within the folk scene. The group combines refined violin melodies with delicate guitar strums and soothing vocals to create music that is sensitive and comforting. Catch their set from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with no cover fee.

Fall Fest
Throughout the year, Canopy Club hosts a variety of concerts and parties, but Fall Fest might just be the biggest. On Thursday, Sept. 12, Slacker University — a touring college-focused media and event company — is coming to the Canopy Club to throw the University’s biggest back-to-school party. With DJs playing today’s biggest hits and college favorites, this party will make for a memorable and entertaining night. Pay $15 to $30 in advance or $30 at the door.

The Four C Notes
If you’re into throwback music — and I’m talking old-school music that your grandparents probably listened to — then you’ll want to check out the Virginia Theatre on Friday, Sept. 13, to see the Four C Notes.
The Four C Notes is a Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons tribute band, dedicating the night to some of the quartet’s biggest hits. Even if you’re not a huge fan of older music, The Four C Notes’ talented vocals and undeniable stage presence will be worth seeing. Ticket prices range from $40 to $70.

Justin Moore
Calling all country fans to the State Farm Center on Sept. 13 to witness talented singer-songwriter Justin Moore alongside special guest Tenille Arts. Moore evokes the spirit of traditional country music with humble lyrics detailing blue-collar values of hard work and dedication. With a blend of traditional country and modern country pop, Moore is a must-see for any country fan. Ticket prices range from $35 to $95.
