Jarling’s Custard Cup was voted as having the best milkshake in Champaign-Urbana this year. Located on Kirby Avenue, Jarling’s serves up countless flavors of creamy custard for students at the University, as well as the C-U community. 

Jarling’s opened its doors to the public in 1983, and to this day, it continues to be a popular dessert destination among University students and locals. The options for sweet treats are endless at Jarling’s, and although it is famous for novelty sundaes and snowstorms, the sweet drinks are what catch the eye of avid ice cream connoisseurs.

Customers can pick from a variety of floats, malts, slushies and, of course, milkshakes. The Jarling’s milkshake captured the attention of many with its creamy and smooth texture, as well as its sweet, sugar-filled flavor. 

Customers can customize their milkshakes, choosing from traditional flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon or the flavor of the week. Jarling’s featured flavor changes weekly — this last month included cappuccino, Georgia peach, orange and cherry. 

Their homemade custard recipes make the Jarling’s milkshake a truly one-of-a-kind treat. Although the custard is what attracts customers, the atmosphere of Jarling’s is what makes the experience memorable. 

With a walk-up window for placing an order and large glass windows for watching the product being made, Jarling’s makes an interactive experience out of buying ice cream. 

College students, children, parents and grandparents love to gather around the wooden picnic tables outside of the establishment and enjoy their sweet treats. 

Although popular during the warmer months, Jarling’s fans in C-U can enjoy the creamy custard year round.
