On the corner of South Lincoln Avenue and West Illinois Street, behind the arches of the Hallene Gateway, resting in the main flower bed, lies the Alice Campbell Alumni Center Fountain. The fountain and center are named after University alumni and donor Alice Campbell.
The fountain boasts bursting jets, perfect for photo opportunities. A strong symbol of school spirit, the fountain’s water turns orange during Homecoming Week.
On sunny days, school, University and community members can be found working or relaxing in the mesmerizing landscape surrounding the fountain. The sound of flowing and rippling water also provides a soothing atmosphere for students during a stressful finals week.
As soon as winter ends and the fountain is turned back on for spring, the entire atmosphere comes alive. The fountain symbolizes and embodies the school community. The Hallene Gateway, emblazoned with “Learning & Labor,” provides inspiration to all those who come to work in its shadow.
