Who does pizza best? The question is hotly debated across the world. But to our Best of CU voters, the easy answer is Manolo’s Pizza & Empanadas.
If you’re tired of thick, doughy pies, or it’s that floppy, flimsy, foldy quality you truly crave, you’ll find everything you’re looking for behind the Manolo’s counter.
The small storefront on Oregon Street in Urbana is more geared to the grab-and-goers, but it offers a few barstools and outdoor tables for those who want to stay a while. A handful of stools next to the front window are the best (and only) seats in the house.
In its list of 30 specialty pizzas, one can find the Fiesta — an explosion of pepperoni, jalapeno and “fiesta” sauce — and the Spotted Goat — spinach, mushrooms and goat cheese over a roasted garlic alfredo sauce.
Even the plainest of Manolo’s pizzas is shockingly satisfying, as gooey and flavorful as anyone could hope for. If its three-peat Best of CU title is any indication, the good people at Manolo’s know what they’re doing, as the community keeps coming back for more.
