SPOILERS AHEAD
Director Rian Johnson has just directed another murder mystery film. The first of this series came out in 2019 and was titled “Knives Out,” but 2022 brings us “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”
Many well known names, such as Daniel Craig, Ed Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr. and many others are involved in this millionaire murder mystery.
The film opens up with a knock at a door. Kathyrn Hahn’s character Claire Debella, the governor of Connecticut, answers it and finds a delivery man holding a large box. May 13, 2020 flashes on the screen, we are in the dark days of the pandemic. Over the course of the first 10 minutes every character receives a box and they work together over the phone to figure out how to open it.
The box contains a note that brings them all to Greece and to their friend Miles Bron’s house, a billionaire tech mogul that invited his friends to his private island to participate in a murder mystery.

Detective Benoit Blanc is the “world’s greatest detective,” who was also present in the film ‘Knives Out,’ but is on another case though this time under different circumstances. Tech billionaire Miles Bron, was not the one who invites him.
One of the guests that was invited, Andi Brand, was another shocking appearance, since her departure from the rest ended on bad terms. Andi was originally a founding partner in the tech company that Miles now solely owns and a dispute about who was the original creator of the idea led to Andi’s exit from the group.
With two unexpected guests, tensions were rising among the others, mostly in regards to Andi’s presence.
Later that night, Miles introduces the murder mystery game they would all be playing, only to have the entire game solved by Benoit moments later. Seven minutes later, Duke Cody, one of the other guests in attendance that night, dies in front of everyone.
The drink that had poisoned him was originally intended for Miles and once they figured that out, he starts freaking out. A few minutes later however, Miles remembers he had rigged the power to go out at 10 p.m. for his murder mystery game.
Miles continues to freak out after the lights go out and so do the rest of the party. With everyone running around in total chaos, the murderer was able to attack another individual at the party. Andi shot and presumed dead during all the chaos.
Then, in good old “Knives Out” fashion, comes the explanation. In a flashback it is revealed that Andi was already dead and it was in fact her sister, Helen, posing as her at the trip. Miles was brought there by Helen in order to figure out who killed her sister. We are brought back to mere moments ago where the audience then finds out that Helen was not killed by the gunshot and moments later Benoit revealed that the killer was actually Miles.
Unfortunately, due to lack of evidence, there is no murder conviction, so Helen ruins his life by destroying his home with his own hydrogen fuel flake he was showing off earlier that night.
Unlike most murder mysteries, this one didn’t have that satisfying gotcha moment at the end, but there was still revenge intertwined in with the ending, bringing some satisfaction to viewers. Overall, the film had the same insane plot twists that the original film was well known for. It’s safe to say that viewers were impressed with the results and luckily, for those mystery lovers, there has been confirmation that a third movie will be coming out in the near future.
