Kilmer was reported dead by The New York Times on April 1. He was 65 years old.
The New York Times reports the “Top Gun” and “Batman Forever” star died of pneumonia, according to his daughter Mercedes Kilmer in her statement.
The actor was first diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and was in remission, with his last film appearance being his role in 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick,” where he reprised his role as Iceman.
According to IMDB, Kilmer is credited with over 100 roles, his first being 1984’s “Top Secret,” where he played an American singer caught up in an underground resistance movement.
In a 2012 interview with Kilmer from The Hollywood Times, the late actor mentioned how he took a break from the acting scene after the formation of his family.

“Well, I don’t have any regrets, but there are two to three jobs that if you do those action movies, you’re secured as a certain global stature,” Kilmer said. “It’s an adage, but it’s kind of true: Once you’re a star, you’re always a star; it’s just what level? And I was in some big, wonderful movies and enjoyed a lot of success, but I didn’t sort of secure that position. “
