On Wednesday, Black Violin stopped in Champaign-Urbana’s Virginia Theatre as part of their Full Circle Tour. Black Violin is a hip-hop/classical fusion duo from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The duo is made up of two classically trained musicians, Kevin Sylvester on the violin and Wilner Babtiste on the viola.

The duo has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and is renowned for their legendary performance at Amateur Night at the Apollo, winning the top prize in 2005, which skyrocketed them to fame. The Full Circle Tour celebrates 20 years since the creation of the group. The night included a performance by Abraham Alexander, who is the opening act for the tour.

Black Violin has also used this tour and their platform to empower young children through the Black Violin Foundation, which is a non-profit organization created to provide access to music education.
