Thrice Lollapalooza veteran Two Door Cinema Club returned to the festival’s stages on Sunday, performing at IHG Hotels & Resorts at 7:45 p.m. to a packed and captivated crowd.
First appearing at Lollapalooza in 2011 again in 2013, the Irish band is no stranger to the Chicago crowds. But since a decade has passed since their last appearance, they’ve released three new albums: a current total of five.
Two Door Cinema Club played music from their discography on Sunday evening, but focused heavily on one era. They began with “This Is the Life” and concluded with “What You Know,” both of which are songs off the band’s second studio album “Tourist History.”
IHG field was packed with thousands of audience members, who all seemed excited to watch Two Door Cinema Club perform. The crowd felt peak excitement at the end, when the band’s biggest hit “What You Know” carried throughout the southern part of the field, a half-musician and half-fan blend.
The band gave up the microphone to let the crowd sing on multiple occasions, and each time, audible lyrics were repeated back to the songwriters. Satisfied and full of joy, the band thanked the loyal crowd for being present at their set.

Transitioning to numbers including “Changing of the Seasons” and “Do You Want It All?,” the band continued to deliver their alternative set with confidence. Bassist Kevin Baird played notable solos, as the massive crowd could feel the bass throughout the audience area.
“Undercover Martyn” was arguably one of the most popular and well-received song off the set. Coming off their second album like the opening and closing tracks, “Undercover Martyn” is the band’s second most played song after “What You Know.”
Production was utilized for further benefit of the audience — blinking and laser lights beamed on stage, and a magenta spiral twirled behind the band in a hypnotic fashion. The hypnosis, specifically, may have helped — the audience stayed captivated throughout the duration of the performance.
Even as there were high levels of foot tracking toward the more-north T-Mobile stage for the headlining Blink-182, faithful fans continued dancing and singing. All thousand-something fans left the performance with satisfaction.
