Champaign County COVID-19 updates: 158 new cases, 630 active

After 11,127 new tests, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District confirmed another 158 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, boosting Champaign County to 630 active cases.
CUPHD reported 52 more people have recovered from the virus.
ZIP code 61820 is Champaign’s biggest contributor to the pandemic: 463 of the active cases reside there, and there have been 1,227 confirmed cases there. One-hundred seventeen of Wednesday’s new cases came from 61820.
The same ZIP code leads Champaign County in total tests with 129,040.
As of Tuesday, 3,064 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Champaign County. Of them, 2,414 have recovered, three are currently hospitalized and 20 have died.

The county has conducted 325,375 tests for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Almost 60% of all tests have been for people between the ages of 10 and 30 years old.
Most of Wednesday’s new cases in Champaign County were from people between the ages of 10 and 30 as well. One-hundred sixteen new cases were between 10 and 20 years old, and 31 cases were between 20 and 30 years old.
In total, 1,110 county cases have been from people between the ages of 10 and 20, while another 772 cases have been between 20 and 30 years old.
On Tuesday, Illinois officials announced 1,392 new cases of COVID-19 along with seven more deaths. Statewide, 252,353 have tested positive for the virus and 8,186 have died from COVID-related complications.
Illinois has conducted over 4.48 million tests since the pandemic began. The state is seventh in testing rate, at around 34,000 tests per 100,000 residents.
