Sentencing set for man who used library computer in theft

By The Associated Press

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – Sentencing is set for July 10 for a man caught by a Collinsville librarian using a library computer for identity theft.

Twenty-eight-year-old Jason Lingo of Granite City has pleaded guilty in federal court in East St. Louis to possession of unauthorized devices, mail fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Lingo admitted he purchased 131 credit card numbers last year and used a Collinsville Public Library’s computer to purchase merchandise with 20 stolen cards.

After receiving the merchandise, Lingo would sell or pawn the items.

On Dec. 11, the librarian became suspicious because Lingo used different names and credit card numbers to make purchases over the Internet. She called police, who arrested him.
