Tunes of “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude” can be heard floating through the halls of ISR where a group of students meet every Friday night, all of whom share one common interest: their love for one of the biggest musical acts in history — the Beatles.
The Lonely Hearts Club Band is a social club on campus whose focus is to bring together students who share a love for the Beatles.
Kalina Borkiewicz, junior in Engineering and president of The Lonely Hearts Club Band, founded the RSO in 2009 with a friend she met in the Beatles Club at their high school. After enjoying the high school club, she decided to start one on campus with hopes of turning students on to the Beatles and increasing awareness and appreciation for the Beatles’ music and the lads themselves.
“I thought it would be great to bring together people who share a love for the Beatles, who may otherwise be hard to find without a centralized organization,” Borkiewicz said.
The club invites students of all ages who are interested in learning about and sharing their love for the Beatles.

“We have members who just know a handful of Beatles’ songs and think they sound pretty cool, full-blown Beatlemaniacs who can tell you how John Lennon combed his hair, and everything in between,” Borkiewicz said.
The club meets every Friday night at ISR to engage in Beatle-themed activities like watching movies, playing Beatles Rock Band, birthday parties for the Beatles, listening parties, trivia games and playing Beatles songs on instruments.
They are also planning a Beatles-themed dance this semester.
Sean Adams, junior in Business and treasurer of the club, has been a Beatles fan for several years and joined to get to know more people interested in the Beatles.
He said his favorite thing the club does is have epic jam sessions until all hours of the night. The club gets together to play Beatles songs on real instruments and sing along.
Annareli Morales, junior in LAS, realized her love for the Beatles three years ago after a friend let her download all of the Beatles’ albums. Since then, she said, she is completely hooked and can’t get enough of the music. She joined The Lonely Hearts Club Band and became vice president because she wanted to hang out with people who loved the Beatles as much as her.
“I enjoy having time to relax and listen to my favorite band,” Morales said. “It’s fun to get to see the members and talk about our week or anything Beatle-y we did recently. It just brings us together.”
The Lonely Hearts Club Band always welcomes new members.
“They don’t have to be obsessed or anything,” Morales said. “If they enjoy it and want to come play Beatles Rock Band or watch movies, they can come to our meetings.”
Morales also said that the meetings are not mandatory, so students can come when they are available.
“We’re open to any ideas for events and it’s just something to do to relieve the stressful life of a college student,” Morales said.
The influence of the Beatles and their music lives on in the Lonely Hearts Club Band, an RSO who quotes, “A splendid time is guaranteed for all.”
