With more than 600 million people on Facebook, it can be hard to make a profile page stand out. But recently companies have capitalized on its accessibility to create apps that help users set their pages apart.
Websites such as http://reface.me, which is not affiliated with Facebook, have created hundreds of apps for users to help spruce up their pages. A new app that was launched when the new Facebook profile went live in December is Photostream, which creates a photo collage out of the top five recently tagged photos of a user and connects it to his main profile image. You can “hack” into your own profile page with a few easy clicks, thereby exponentially increasing your Facebook individualism.
STEP ONE
Start with an image for your new souped-up profile pic, and download it into an image editor such as Adobe Photoshop. A wide rectangular image works best because the images will ultimately be arranged like a broken panorama across the top of your profile.
STEP TWO
Get The Daily Illini in your inbox!
Re-size the image in Photoshop to 485 by 68 pixels.
STEP THREE
Crop the image into five smaller images, each measuring 97 by 68 pixels and save them to your computer.
STEP FOUR
Upload the five photos to Facebook into an album, and tag yourself in reverse order so that the first image that appears will be tagged last. Upload the last image as your new profile picture, and the result should be uniquely you.
The website also features other ways to mix up your profile page, including apps such as “Avatarize Yourself” and blog posts discussing the hottest topics surrounding the world’s largest social media phenomenon. In a world where everybody has a Facebook account, apps let users distinguish themselves.
