With fall just around the corner, it can only mean one thing: season premiers of everyone’s favorite shows will be starting soon. It’s time to jog your memory, get on Hulu to rewatch the dramatic final moments from the season finale and remember any details that may have faded during the summer.
For some returning shows, the drama starts even before the first episode. This is true for shows like Glee, Desperate Housewives and Two and a Half Men. All three shows face major changes ahead this season.
For true Gleeks, this next season will be anything but gleeful. This season of Glee premiers Sept. 20 and after months of rumors, it was confirmed in July by Glee creator Ryan Murphy that three of the main characters, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer, would be graduating at the end of the season to keep the show realistic. Glee fan Kristina Falk, junior in LAS, doesn’t see any major problems with the characters graduating.
“I think that in the past few seasons Glee as done an okay job of doing this realistically,” she said. “By having them leave, its keeping everything as realistic as possible.”
Falk argues that Glee will survive without its main stars attracting viewers.

“I totally think it will be okay,” she said. “As long as the producers bring in good new characters and form a connection between them, the show will be okay.”
As any true Gleek might say, the show must go on.
This advice is not true for any fans of Desperate Housewives. It has been announced that Sept. 25 will start the 8th and final season of the hit show. For Colleen Dumke, sophomore in ACES and loyal Desperate Housewives watcher since Season 1, this marks the end of a tradition.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do on Sunday nights anymore,” she said. “That’s what I look forward to. I don’t think it should ever end.”
Although it will be sad for Dumke once the final episode airs, she still has the entire season to look forward to.
“They have had interviews with all of the actors, like Marcia Cross,” she said. “There’s going to be a lot of death and tragedies and big things happening in this final season. Even though I’m sad, they will make it one of the best seasons.”
Speaking of death and tragedies, many fans of Two and a Half Men are anxiously awaiting the Sept. 19 premiere to see exactly how Charlie Sheen’s character Charlie Harper is killed off. Two and a Half Men fan Matt Etter, graduate student in accounting, is already making predictions on how Sheen’s character will meet his end.
“Something with alcohol or partying,” Etter said. “It will be funny if they do it that way. Then they can make it work and still keep the creative part of the show. If not, it might be harder to get it back on track to how it was before.”
The ninth season will premiere with a new cast addition, Ashton Kutcher. Etter is unsure of how he will fit into the show.
“I don’t think it will be as funny,” he said. “The dynamic between Charlie and Alan is pretty good. They have that brother dynamic — they play very well off each other. I don’t know if Ashton will be able to create the comedic bond they have on screen.”
Although there will be plenty of drama surrounding these three returning programs, there are also a large number of new shows that will be premiering this fall.
FOX will debut their new show, The X Factor, on Sept. 21. Simon Cowell will return to FOX along with Paula Abdul to judge this competition to find the next music group or singing sensation. An updated version of Charlie’s Angels will premiere on Sept. 22 on ABC this fall. The series follows the same idea as the original Charlie’s Angels, with three girls working as detectives for their secretive boss, Charlie.
Also look out for CBS’s 2 Broke Girls, premiering in between How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men on Sept. 19. The show follows, of course, the lives of two broke girls as they form a friendship to try and open their own business. This show stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs.
With everyone’s favorite shows returning and a whole new lineup of nighttime television, there are a lot of reasons for students to procrastinate.
