Urbana Police officers are investigating a case of aggravated car hijacking that occurred at the 1500 block of East Florida Avenue on Sunday afternoon.
A 71-year-old woman and a 72-year-old woman pulled into the parking lot of their assisted living/senior apartment complex around noon, said Urbana Police Lt. Bryant Seraphin.
“Two 18 to 20-year-old black men approached the driver and passenger side windows,” Seraphin said. “They pulled the women from the car, and the one on the driver’s side struck or punched the driver.”
The men drove away in the 1995 Buick.
Seraphin said car hijackings are unusual in Urbana.

“This kind of thing does not happen often anywhere in Champaign County,” Seraphin said.
