The Champaign Police Department is investigating a scam that targets the elderly, according to a press release.

According to the release police have received numerous reports of a white male approaching elderly residents in an attempt to defraud them of money. The suspect allegedly claims that he used to live in the neighborhood and that he knows the victim.

After an interaction with the suspect, a victim was able to describe him. The suspect is described as a white male, who is 5’10” with brown hair and looks to be 40 years old.

The police encourage people to avoid giving money to people you do not know.
